"The hilarious dialog and the tension between Savannah and Rafe will delight fans of chick-lit mysteries and romantic suspense." Jo Ann Vicarel, Library Journal

Savannah Martin has always been a good girl, doing what was expected and fully expecting life to fall into place in its turn. But when her perfect husband turns out to be a lying, cheating slimeball—and bad in bed to boot—Savannah kicks the jerk to the curb and embarks on life on her own terms. With a new apartment, a new career, and a brand new outlook on life, she’s all set to take the world by storm.

If only the world would stop throwing her curveballs...

They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and Savannah is certainly learning the truth of that statement.

It’s been a month and a half since Rafael Collier left town, and although Savannah knows it would be hideously inappropriate—not to mention supremely stupid—to miss him, she wishes he’d come back soon. His grandmother’s ailing, the nurse he hired to take care of her has disappeared, and somebody is watching the house and following Savannah as she goes about the business of bringing her first real estate transaction to a close.

But when Rafe comes back, things only go from bad to worse. Resident nurse Marquita Johnson is found murdered, and Metro Nashville Homicide Detective Tamara Grimaldi is asked to handle the case. It doesn’t take long for her to focus her interest, once again, on Rafe.

Now Savannah has to make the choice between staying safe by accepting her old flame Todd’s proposal of marriage, or taking a chance on losing her heart and her life by trying to help Rafe, as the term ‘contract pending’ takes on a whole new meaning.

“I have loved this series since book one and have enjoyed being along for the ride as Savannah has grown from the princess on the hill who tried to live up to her mother’s outdated expectations into a strong woman who stands up for her own beliefs and the man she loves. Jenna Bennett has tackled a sensitive subject with honesty, Southern charm, and laugh out loud humor. And the series keeps getting better. I can’t wait for the next one.” Reviewer Karli

I just love these Savannah Martin and Rafael Collier mysteries.

In "Contract Pending," Rafe has been gone for about five weeks, and Savannah misses him. She promised him that she would check up on his grandmother, Mrs.Jenkins, who is being cared for by Marquita Johnson. Marquita hates Savannah, and every time Savannah shows up at Mrs. Jenkins' mansion, she shuts the door in Savannah's face. But Savannah prevails. However, one morning she gets a call from Detective Tamara Grimaldi telling her to come to the station because Mrs. Jenkins was found wandering through the town on her own. It comes about that Marquita has left Mrs. Jenkins alone and not been back for days. Savannah agrees to take her to her apartment. But, when she gets there, she finds that someone has entered her apartment and trashed her bedroom. She then takes Mrs. Jenkins back to her mansion, and spends the night in Rafe's bedroom. She is wakened the next morning by Rafe. The phone interrupts their embrace. It is Detective Grimaldi, who tells Savannah that Marquita had been shot and found dead in the Bog in Sweetwater.

Savannah goes to her mother's home in Sweetwater and to pay her respects to Marquita's husband, who is the Deputy Sheriff. Her mother, however, is expecting Savannah to accept a marriage proposal from Todd, the Assistant D.A. of Sweetwater, the one who despises Rafe Collier, and who persistently denigrates him to Savannah every chance he gets, and points out that Rafe is not in Savannah's social class. Savannah is a white Southern Belle and Rafe is the biracial son of a white woman, referred to as LaDonna's "colored boy" who grew up in a trailer on the Bog. The marked distinction between the social classes of Savannah and Rafe creates a tension of racial bias manifested in the character of Todd and his point of view, and in Savannah's family, especially her mother.

In this work, Savannah is maturing more and more, and is coming to realize that Todd is rather overbearing. But, he is the more acceptable member of society as far as her family is concerned. Rafe is totally unacceptable, in her family's opinion.

This book is well worth the read.

This series is habit forming and I can hardly wait for Close to Home to come out - soon please! In this book, it is nice to see Savannah finally grow from a Southern Belle kind of airhead, into someone who is finally questioning why she can't eat cheesecake for dessert, and at last realizing that the manner in which Todd speaks to her is unacceptable and really annoying!!!

Please hurry #4 - I need my Savannah and Rafe fix.
Growing up in the South, & also a licensed real estate broker, I relate to Savannah. On the whole, Ms.Bennett has all the information correct. Looking forward to what Savannah finally does.
I Love, Love, Love this whole Series! I cannot recommend them enough. I adore the characters and the growth of Savannah as she struggles with being a Southern Belle while fighting to make herself a better person is wonderful. I can't wait for more of this series!
I really enjoy this Series. I enjoy the development of the story and of course, the tension between Savannah and Todd and electricity between Savannah and Rafe
Never thought I could love two such flawed characters so much, but I do. They're so LIKEABLE! I love mysteries, but Savannah and Rafe are what keep me turning the pages of book after book. Love them!
The story is much the same as others. Savannah's constant references to her mother and her southern upbringing are very redundant and unnecessary. Her jumps to negative conclusions every time Rafe is missing for 10 minutes are childish. However, the books are a quick read and entertaining.
I wasn't completely convinced how the author would tie in murder to real estate, but I was pleasantly surprised. I found there was great character development. Despite some people finding Savannah being too caught up in what others thought, I found it refreshingly real. Perhaps not everyone worries about what their parents or family may think. But there is plenty of people who do, and in particular worry about what others think period. Unlike other books where the lead female throws reckless abandonment and does whatever she wants. Savannah actually wants to please her family and cares. Tho it could seem childish at times, I liked the realness of it.
Rafe, well lets be honest... despite his bad boy ways, you can't help but love him. Todd gives a nice curve ball, and tho he is completely sterile it certainly mixes things up a bit.

I recommend the entire series of Savannah Martin Mysteries. Very fun books to read!
